AUSTRALIAN + NEW ZEALAND DEFENCE DIRECTORY 2021/22 INDUSTRY GROUPS, ASSOCIATIONS & GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS SOVEREIGN I DUSTRY CAPABILITY EDI ORIAL

INNOVATION COLLABORATION DEMONSTRATION S overeign industrial capability is critical to Australia’s defence and manufacturing industries in order for our nation to be fortified, and less dependent on foreign imports and services. Access to homegrown skills, technology and intellectual property is needed for current and future SIC programs. PMG has the ability to support three crucial and exciting manufacturing programs, prioritising SIC for the following: • Collins-class submarine maintenance and technology upgrades • The on-going, domestic shipbuilding program • Land combat vehicles, and technology flexibility in supporting current critical capabilities PMG will do this via steel fabrication and component welding, where we believe a national skill shortage currently exists. The Australian government’s priority is for the defence industry to be integrated into global supply chains, have modern productive and secure shipyards, and employ a highly skilled workforce for both shipbuilding and sustainment. The industry must also have the ability to update, as well as upgrade systems and equipment, to ensure that ADF land combat vehicles can meet all chal- lenges head on. Extensive Australian industry involvement in delivering the new Combat Recon- naissance Vehicle program will ensure the nation develops the sovereign know-how to maintain a lethal, relevant and effective capability into the future. PMG has been focused on three key areas to deliver solid SIC within Australia, and have success- fully delivered on the categories below - with more to come. • Innovation • Collaboration • Demonstration INNOVATION

Manufacturing Industry 4.0 style is already underway at PMG with the use of automated robotic cells, and robotic laser and press machines - thus ensuring we deliver the best possible products for our defence customers in Australia. We must also consider bringing our workforce up to speed, as this is key to better sustain an aging personnel, and educating the next generation. It is our commitment to harness and develop the skill force of yesterday, and merge that with the generation of tomorrow. With the innovative upgraded technology of machinery, we plan to bring together the knowledge and skill base of the aging demographic in this industry, with the fresh and tech-savvy minds of the younger generation - to work together, and educate each other. This will provide an efficient, productive, multi-skilled and competitive manufacturing company for the Australian and International supply chain. It’s essential to modernise within our workforce, and with industrial machinery, together to secure and sustain our Australian SIC. COLLABORATE PMG has over the years collaborated, and met with international supply chains, certification bodies and training organisations to better under- stand the skillset requirement for defence across the world. PMG has continued to transfer knowledge and prowess into Australia to better protect and serve the Australian war fighter. In 2019 PMG started testing and training our team to develop the products and services many other major suppliers are yet to do, and we urge more collaboration within the Australian SME market to better secure our SIC. While collaborating with the defence supply chains is key to growth and sustainment, many companies are behind in this area, in keys fields like TAFE, STEM, Indigenous participation, and school-based programs. PMG has recently provided students across these fields a pathway to a career in manufacturing, and multiple roles within trades, engineering, administration, science, and technology. Australian companies may not be able to deliver on every point presently, but SIC has incredible potential for growth. So, moving forward we can work to ascertain our strengths, and focus on what we are expert at to be successful. DEMOSTRATE It has been a rigorous accreditation journey for our competent and compliant manufacturing company hailing from Western Sydney. But the hard work has paid off, as we now hold international certification for IIW ISO 3834-2, and Germany military certification of DIN 2303 Q2 BK1 – the first of its kind for a company in the southern hemisphere. We also hold the Information security management system ISO 27001, covering require- ments for defence programs in Australia and abroad. These certifications place PMG at the forefront of welding and manufacturing in Australia. Thus generating a national, sovereign and capable business ready to support Primes, OEM’s, and other SMEs in local and international defence manufacturing programs. While PMG is continuing to lead the way with over 14 internationally recognised certifications, and with its world-first, school-based training pro- grams, our focus moving forward is to continue demonstrating our passion and leadership in supporting indigenous people. This will be done via our Indigee Metals offshoot that is a Supply Nation company – that is, it has at least 51% indigenous ownership. Indigee Metals will deliver all PMG has accomplished, and allow that success to be available for our first nation people. It will work in regional areas to open career paths for indigenous youth, as part of PMG’s goal to make our skill shortages in Australian defence manufacturing, history.
