Description Hanwha Defense Australia was founded in early 2019 and is a part of the broader Hanwha Group, a global Fortune 500 company with over 351 net-works globally and annual sales of some AUS $97bn with the business spanning chemical and materials, aerospace, mechatronics and defence, solar energy, finance, leisure and lifestyle, and construction. The Hanwha Defense business specialises in the areas of Artillery Systems, Armoured Vehicles, Air Defence Systems and Unmanned Ground Systems. With five major facilities and more than 1,600 people devoted to defence R&D, Hanwha is at the forefront of global defense research and investment with the benefits of this available to HDA. Hanwha has delivered over 7,000 armoured vehicles globally, with this fleet growing as our K9 SPH cements itself as one of the world’s best 155mm systems. Hanwha is currently pursuing two majors programs in Australia, Land 8116 and Land 400 Phase 3 with the intent of creating an Armoured Vehicles manufacturing and R&D facility in Victoria. We are also progressing the value we can bring to Australia through the Commonwealth’s Guided Weapons Initiative. It is anticipated the facility will support all Hanwha vehicle fleets for their life of type, ongoing R&D programs for Hanwha vehicles both domestically and in some instances globally and, most importantly, create a pathway forward to build an Australian industrial and SME base that can work with Hanwha both globally and domestically. The facility will also be central to our munitions and joint fires offerings here in Australia. Importantly HDA has created an Industry Development Unit, the purpose of which is to integrate our global supply chain activities, R&D, social responsibilities and the building of technical skills and manufacturing expertise to ensure we build the ‘middle of Australian Defence Industry’, that has been missing from past defence projects.
