ASC is critical to delivering Australia’s submarine and maritime industrial capability today and for decades to come. Description ASC is Australia’s sovereign submarine sustainment and maritime services company. Established in 1985 in South Australia, ASC is a proprietary limited company registered under the Corporations Act 2001 and owned by the Australian Government. In 1987, ASC was selected as prime contractor for the delivery of Australia’s first locally built submarine fleet, the Collins Class (CCSM). At the conclusion of the CCSM build program in 2003, ASC was awarded the contract for through-life support, maintenance and design upgrades of the six regionally superior submarines. The CCSM Life Of Type Extension (LOTE) program is a key enabler for Australia’s continued deployment of submarine capability, and ASC is working closely with the Department of Defence to extend the operational life of the CCSM into the late 2040s. ASC employs more than 1,300 skilled personnel in South Australia and Western Australia, delivering international benchmark submarine sustainment, upgrade and life-extension services and planning to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and Defence. ASC manages a mature, Australian-controlled supply chain drawn from Australia and around the world that provides high quality, secure and resilient supplies and services. The CCSM supply chain delivers 92% Australian Industry Content and is valued at more than $200 million annually. Between 2005 and 2020, ASC was the lead platform shipbuilder for Australia’s Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) program. The third and final AWD was delivered to the RAN in 2020, which marked the end of another successful Australian shipbuilding program. ASC is subcontracted to Luerssen Australia for the South Australian build of the first two Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV). Luerssen Australia will build the remaining 10 OPVs with Civmec in Western Australia, as required by the Australian Government. ASC has provided submariner training services to the RAN at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia, located close to ASC’s facilities in Henderson, for nearly 30 years and has trained more than 1,000 submariners to date. ASC provides sovereign submarine design and construction expertise to the Australian Government’s Future Submarine Technical Office through the secondment of personnel. (Continued Next Page)
